I am pleased to announce that MyLifeSite has launched a new audio podcast to complement the growing readership of this blog. Titled “Aging is a Trip,” the podcast takes a candid yet lighthearted look at many aspects of aging and retirement.
Each episode aims to inform, provoke thought, and sometimes entertain. The goal is to broaden public understanding of age-related topics—past, present, and future—while keeping the conversation relaxed and approachable.
Our first “Aging is a Trip” episode
For the debut episode, I sit down with Dr. Keren Wilson, who originated the concept of modern assisted living. Dr. Wilson opened the first assisted living community in the U.S. in the early 1980s and continues to be a driving force in the aging services field. In part one of this two-part interview, Dr. Wilson discusses:
- Her work serving older adults who fall between qualifying for subsidized housing and Medicaid but cannot afford typical senior housing options.
- The current state of the gerontology field and how combining gerontology with technology can free caregivers to focus on the most meaningful, human aspects of care.
- The history of aging and senior living in the United States, from early approaches such as fostering older adults and so-called “poor farms” to today’s more dignified options.
